D’Artangan Evans was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. At Purcell Catholic High School, he was an active choir and band member who was awarded Most Outstanding Musician in his senior year. By age twelve, the faithful member of First Baptist Church of Walnut Hills was singing in the Young Adult Choir and playing piano for the Sunday School. At fourteen, he was accepted into the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s official chorus. At sixteen, he became organist and assistant choir director for the Phillip Memorial CME Church. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the prestigious University of Cincinnati College – Conservatory of Music and excelled in music composition and organ performance.
After college, Brother Evans moved to Brooklyn, New York where he worked as an organist and choir director for several churches throughout New York. He also played keyboards for a gospel group and an evangelist. This afforded him the opportunity to minister in Virginia, Colorado, California, New Jersey, and Texas and in countries including Canada, Switzerland, Italy, and Austria. He also studied for two years at the New York Theological Seminary. Brother Evans continued his music ministry in several churches in Baltimore County including Locust United Methodist Church in Columbia, Maryland. To sharpen his musical skills, Brother Evans enjoys, attending workshops and conferences around the county.
Since 1986, Mr. Evans has been a public school teacher. He earned a Master of Science Degree in Music Education from Towson State University and taught in elementary, middle, and high schools in Brooklyn, New York and Frederick County and Baltimore County in Maryland. Mr. Evans always approaches his teaching career as an extension of his music ministry, and many of his former students can be heard joyfully singing throughout the year at Mount Olive. His work at Mount Olive is one of the greatest joys in his life. He feels extraordinarily blessed and humbled to be a part of this church and its music ministry.
D’Artangan Evans has been married since 1980. He and his wife have two adult children.
